Countdown to CAMP!

We are on the countdown to camp!!! Woo hoo!!!

Below is all the info that was in the camp booklet just in case you need to re-read.

Departure Arrangements: 8.45am on Day 1 of Camp
Students attending the camp are to bring their luggage and meet with their class teacher in the designated area in the hall. The roll will be taken then students loaded onto the bus for their departure. The bus will not be able to wait for any students who are late.
Camp: A1, A2, A3 and A5 Year 5 and 6 students
8.45am Wednesday 8 March – 2.45pm Friday 10 March

Emergency Contact: If, due to an emergency, you need to get hold of a student while they are at camp you may contact a Glenholme Staff member  via the Camp Director at Totara Springs Camp ph 07 8884700.

Accommodation: Students will be accommodated in Cabin Accommodation.  There will be separate accommodation for males and females. The adult helpers will be allocated a cabin room in the cabin area.

Meals: The meals at Totara Springs Camp are prepared by catering staff on site.
This camp has for many years had a very good reputation for the high standard of   food provided for campers. If any student requires a special diet could you please indicate the requirements on the camp “Participation Form” which needs to be
returned to school by Friday 10 February 2017. The camp is able to cater for vegetarians and others who require a special diet for medical or religious reasons.

Transport: Travel to and from Camp will be by chartered bus. There will be a car at camp that can be used in an emergency.

Parent Helpers:
30 parent helpers will be needed to accompany us on our trip. All parent helpers will be required to complete a Police vetting form.
Cost: The Board of Trustees and our Principal, Mrs Macfarlane have recognised how expensive camp has become for many of our families and have generously agreed to cover all camp expenses for the Whakapoungakau students and parent helpers this year.  Due to the enormous expense that the school has taken on, we would still like the children to make a contribution towards their camp expenses by taking part in a chocolate fundraiser.  
Programme: A copy of the camp programme will be on display in each classroom in the week prior to camp. Students will be placed in groups of 12-14, assigned an adult as a Group Leader and will rotate around various activities. These are likely to include archery, a confidence course, orienteering, abseiling, flying kiwi, flying fox, air rifles, the water slide, raft building and team challenges. There will also be a top team competition. The teachers & the camp organizers will have a backup plan for each rotation if required due to inclement weather.
  
Bedtime: Students will go to bed at approximately 8.30pm and will be expected to be quiet between 9pm and 6.30am.

Medication: Please indicate on the “Participation Form” if your child will have any medication with them at camp and provide specific details for any medication that you require school staff to administer.

Gear List: A list of items that students need to bring to camp is included in this information pack. Please name all items of clothing and personal gear so that anything that ends up in lost property can be returned to its owner.  Please note that students are not allowed to bring cellphones, electronic games, music or radio players, pocket knives, lollies or extra food items. We would also prefer that as little jewellery as possible is worn - jewellery is brought at the owner’s risk.  

Money: There is no need to bring any money to camp.

Telephones: The students will not have access to telephones during their time at camp. If students need to make contact with their home in an emergency, this will be done with the assistance of a staff member.

Swimming gear: Students will need to bring their swimming gear for the water slide activity.

Behaviour Expectations: Students are expected to be respectful, honest, responsible and take pride in     
being a Glenholme School student. Students are expected to follow the instructions of teachers, parent helpers and camp staff at all times and with a ‘Go for it’ attitude.  Students attending camp will need to sign the “Participation Form” that they agree to behave in an acceptable manner and that they understand the need to respect others, and the camp environment. If the behaviour of a student causes concern to the teaching staff the student may be withdrawn from the camp and sent home.  Parents/guardians will be responsible for uplifting their child at their own expense.

First Aid: There will be an adult in charge of first aid at camp. In the event of illness or injury,
the staff/adults in attendance will make the decision if professional assistance is needed and seek this if necessary. Any professional costs incurred for treatment that are not covered by ACC will need to be reimbursed to the school.

Smoke and Alcohol Free: Totara Springs is a smoke and alcohol free facility.

Student Gear List
Please attach a luggage tag to the outside of your bag(s) which clearly indicates your name and class

  • Large plastic bag for dirty or wet clothing
  • Pillow and pillowcase
  • Sleeping bag or sheets and duvet or blankets
  • Two towels
  • Swimsuit
  • Raincoat
  • 3-4 changes of clothes to include- Shorts, T- Shirts, Sweatshirts or Fleece Jackets or Jersey, trousers or sweatpants
  • Thermals (optional)
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Pyjamas
  • 2 pairs of shoes (1 pair must be covered shoes, necessary for activities)
  • Sun hat & beanie
  • Toiletry gear which needs to include soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, comb/hairbrush
  • Tissues and several band aids
  • Biro, Pencil, Camp book
  • Drink bottle- named
  • Torch- named
  • Sunblock
  • Medication (if needed)
  • All children to bring a packet of biscuits or home baking

Optional:
  • Camera (bring at your own risk)
  • Pack of cards or small board game
  • Guitars or any small musical instrument (bring at your own risk)

Note:
  • NO cellphones
  • NO electronic games,
  • NO music or radio players
  • NO pocket knives
  • NO lollies or extra food items.
